Children's Dentistry
Children’s dentistry adapts general dentistry techniques and procedures to provide optimal care for infants through adolescents. Maintaining your child’s dental health is important as they grow and develop.
Primary teeth provide extremely important roles for the permanent teeth. Dr. Holm strives to provide gentle dentistry and quality care for his young patients.
Dental Exams
If you are a new patient, an oral exam is necessary to provide Dr. Holm with your overall oral health. Oral exams involve your entire mouth. X-rays are highly recommended as part of your yearly check-up. Dr. Holm can check x-rays to reveal cavities or problems happening between your teeth.
Dr. Holm and his hygienist can check for gum disease, cavities and also evaluate your risk of developing other oral health problems. This oral exam is recommended every six months to keep your mouth in optimum health.
Tooth Whitening
Whitening your teeth is a popular and commonplace dental procedure. There are a wide variety of options available which can be adjusted to suit your individual needs and almost any budget. The procedure begins with an impression of your teeth both upper and lower. From these impressions bleaching trays are made. The majority of this process takes place at home. A bleaching agent is used with the trays and takes place over a designated amount of time.
Extractions
Are you suffering from a toothache? Dr. Holm and his staff are here to help! If a tooth has been broken or damaged Dr. Holm will try to fix it with a filling, crown or other dental treatment.
However, when there’s too much damage for the tooth to be repaired, it may need to be extracted — or removed — from its socket in the bone.
There are two types of extractions: simple and surgical. For the simple extraction Dr. Holm can simply use forceps to gently remove the tooth from the socket. Surgical removal is required when teeth are broken off or have not erupted from the gum.
Dental Implants
Implants have evolved over time and have become a proven modality for replacing a tooth or for use in a full mouth reconstruction.
Implants are inserted into the bone to act as an anchor for a crown and partials and dentures. Implants are a great alternative to patients who are seeking a better way to keep dentures secure and allowing for a better therapeutic treatment overall.
While offering a better treatment alternative, it is a longer process. Dr. Holm can help you decide whether an implant is right for you.
Crowns
A crown is a tooth shaped cap that covers the entire tooth. A crown is needed when a tooth has been broken, or the tooth has been severely worn down, or the filling has become too large and there is recurrent decay. It may also be used to cover a severely yellowed tooth or cover an implant and hold a bridge in place.
There are different kinds of crowns that are available. A stainless steel crown is usually used for children and tend to be more of a temporary-type crown. Most commonly used crowns are the PFM (porcelain fused to metal), Resin, All Porcelain or gold crowns.
Depending on where the tooth is located that needs a crown, Dr. Holm may suggest a specific type of crown for your individual need.
Root Canals
Root canals are common procedures and can help save your tooth from extraction. Dr. Holm has been safely and expertly performing root canal procedures for over two decades.
A root canal is a treatment to repair and save a badly damaged or infected tooth. The procedure involves removing the damaged area of the tooth (the pulp), cleaning and disinfecting it and then filling and sealing it.
The common causes affecting the pulp are a cracked tooth, a deep cavity, repeated dental treatment to the tooth or trauma. The term “root canal” comes from cleaning of the canals inside the tooth’s root.
At Gentle Family Dentistry, we understand how scary root canals can seem. That’s why we strive to make the process as simple as possible in order to minimize any discomfort and stress a patient may experience.
